Q) how energy efficient are these big ballast
A) The Viavolt ballasts are as energy efficient as any other name brand magnetic ballast. There is a bit of a misconception in that magnetic ballasts use more electricity than their electronic (digital) counterparts. The ballasts still run at 1000 watts, just like the electronic.
The main difference is that sometimes a magnetic ballast allows fluctuations in the light frequency. These small fluctuations are not used by plants and occur at max, 30% of the run time of a ballast.
